Take Back the Night - Lowell 2017

  • 50 Arcand Drive Lowell, MA, 01852 United States (map)

Across the country, April marks the month of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention. In Greater Lowell, we join with community partners, families, and individuals to raise awareness about sexual violence in all forms.

We invite you to #TakeBackTheNight on April 27th at 6pm!

The event begins at 6pm with a rally at Lowell City Hall Plaza (50 Arcand Drive) followed by a march down Merrimack Street to U-Crossing (220 Pawtucket Drive). There will be an indoor gathering for survivors and their loved ones to share their stories in a safe space about the impact of sexual violence in their lives. Safe spaces this year will include a Self-Care room, a Youth Corner, Volunteer area, and community resources provided by area agencies.

The origins of Take Back The Night date back to 19th century England when women protested fear and violence in the streets at night. Some believe that the first rally took place in Belgium in 1976 to take a stand against violence against women.

Take Back The Night in Greater Lowell is coordinated by local agencies who have a keen desire to bring an end to sexual violence and hate crimes in all forms including sexual assault, domestic violence and dating violence. We acknowledge that all forms of violence are interconnected and bring attention to the elements that perpetuate violence to build a safer Lowell.
